Sunday School Parent Cue Jan. 15-21

Parable of the Farmer and the Seed

Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23; Luke 8:4-15

Jesus tells a story about a farmer scattering seeds.  Some fall in rocky soil, and some fall among thorns.  None of these seeds do well.  But some fall in good soil and grow great plants.  Jesus told this story to show that Jesus grows us.

It is not important who does the planting, or who does the watering.  What's important is that God makes the seed grow.  1 Corinthians 3:7

Family Activity

Through the Week

  • Fold four or five dry kidney beans inside a wet paper towel.
  • Put the paper towel inside a quart-sized plastic bag and seal the bag shut, leaving some air inside the bag.
  • Tape the plastic bag in a window, or put it on a plate near a window.
  • Check it out! See what happens to the beans throughout the week, and talk about the ways the beans are changing.
  • Talk about some of the changes we might see when Jesus grows us.

Family Discussion

What's one way that Jesus has grown you recently?
